A grandmother in Ireland was caught hanging around outside a bingo hall with cocaine in her possession, according to a story in published by the Mirror this week.
Helen Heaphy, 50, was approached by police out of Rock Bingo and arrested. She faces charges of possession and intent to sell.
Heaphy was found with €350 worth of coke on her prompting Judge Leo Malone to ask, “What was she doing with cocaine at a bingo hall?”
Her lawyer, Frank Buttimer, said, “The event happened outside the bingo hall. At the request of someone, she carried it to give to her. It was a stupid act which placed her at risk of imprisonment.
“She is 50 years old, she is separated and is a mother and grandmother with responsibilities in relation to her family.
“She co-operated fully with the Garda enquiry during a lengthy interview and indicated at the earliest stage her intention to plead guilty.”
Inspector John Deasy said that Heaphy had been previously convicted on similar charges but this time she was fined a total of €750 by Judge Malone
